Pragmatic is the approach. Focused is the mindset.

Erik Kynard's goal is to literally leap over the competition every time out.

"I put together this list of goals and then I cross them off," said Kynard, who recently won the NCAA outdoor high jump championship with a winning leap of 7 feet, 6 inches.

The Kansas State sophomore claimed the victory only a couple months after finishing third at the NCAA indoor national championships.
