Junior Destinee Hooker, competing in her first meet since the 2007 campaign, became the first Longhorn of the season to automatically qualify for nationals after setting a Leonard Hilton meet record in the high jump with a mark of 6-3.25 (1.91m). Senior All-American Alexandria Anderson led a Texas-dominated 60-meter dash final, taking first in an NCAA-provisional time of 7.39. Freshman LaKeidra Stewart crossed the line one-tenth of a second after Anderson for second (7.49), while fellow newcomer Stacey-Ann Smith clocked a 7.62 for seventh place.
