Jesse's Final USA rankings

#1.  Jesse Williams - I almost put Andra in front of me in the rankings but looking over my year I competed at a high level consistently throughout the year.  Highlighted by the winning of the Olympic trials and getting a third place finish at the World Athletics final stood out to me as the two biggest highlights of the year.  Also getting sixth at the World Indoor Championships in Valencia, Spain.  I didn't make the Olympic finals which was very disapointing and am still frustrated with but despite feel good about the season overal.

#2.  Andra Manson - I almost feel like Andra had a better year than me but he was hurt and only competed a few times outdoors.  He won the USA indoor champs with a 2.30m clearance.  He ended up getting a bronze medal at the world indoor championships and carried that momentum into the early outdoor season with a 2.33m personal best clearance before hurting his ankle.  He didnt compete again till he got a silver at the USA olympic trials.  And finally ended up not making the finals of the Olympic games.

#3.  Dusty Jonas - He had the best early season of any American.  He jumped an amazing 2.36m at the Big 12 champs and set just about every record a college kid could along with it.  He won the NCAA indoor champs with a 2.31m jump and got a second place finish at the NCAA outdoor champs with a jump of 2.26m.  He got 6th place at the Olympic trials which was still good enough to make the Olympic team based on other top finishers not having the Olympic A standard.

#4.  Jamie Nieto - Jamie is always right there at the USA championships.  He has gotten 2nd the past two years at this meet.  I felt horrible about him not making the team based on him not having the A standard before the US Olympic trials.  He then went on to compete over in Europe to get the A standard in the first meet after the trials but was still not good enough to get him on the Olympic team based on USATF rules about the window of getting the A standard.  Despite had a good year overall with many consistent jumps over 2.25 and higher.

#5.  Cedric Norman - Cedric has been under the radar for a few years on the national scene but everyone who knows him knows that he is a real talent.  He ended up qualifying for the trials on the last week possible and ended up coming in 4th place!  He looked great at the trials jumping 2.27m (7-5.25) his second highest jump of his career (PB 2004 of 2.29 7-6) on his first jump and had good attempts at 2.30m which would have been good enough to qualify him for the Olympics.  He then went on to jump well in a few other meet later that summer to propel himself up to this ranking.

#6.  Keith Moffat - Keith Moffat is a gamer for the USA champs.  He should never be counted out at these meets and always seems to jump his best in them.  The tall lanky jumper seemingly floats up over any height he attempts.  He got 5th place at the Olympic trials with his jump of 2.27m and was so very close to jumping the 2.30m mark that would have got him in the Olympics.  He was so so close nipping it with the back of his heals on a few of his attempts.  He was hurt much of the begining of the year but made his season a great one with his finish at the Trials in Eugene.

#7.  Adam Shunk - Adam a good friend of mine and has been a consistent top 10 ranked USA jumper for many years now.  He is a student of the sport and it proved when he sat out the entire indoor season with an injury and came out looking good at the Olympic trials and a few smaller meets leading up to it.  He ended up jumping 2.24m (7-4.25) which placed him 6th (tie).

#8.  Scott Sellers - This is a very talented jumper that could be one of the special talents to look out for in the near future.  He ended up with a SB of 2.30m (7-6.5) which he jumped at Texas relays.  He finished 4th at the NCAA outdoor meet and 2nd in the indoor meet.  He also got 6th (tie) at the Olympic trials and went into a jump-off with Dusty Jonas just barly missing the Olympic team.

#9.  Tora Harris - Tora who is also a gifted jumper was unfortunately striken with injury all year long.  He opened up at the Prefontaine meet with a jump of 2.30m (7-6.5) but then unfortunately injuries slowed him down from him possibly making his second Olympic team.  He did a few other meets with solid marks but was limited on his jumping this year.

#10.  Jim Dilling - Jim started out with a new coach Cliff Rovelto of Kansas State which I believe is going to be a great thing for this talented friend of mine.  He ended up with a SB of 2.25m (7-4.5) which he jumped with ease at the Kansas relays before getting hurt at the Drake relays.  He tried jumping with the injury at a few meets after this but was never 100%.  He finally capped of his season with a 2.19m (7-2.25) jump at the trials which led him to a 11th place finish at the trials.  He also jumped 2.22m (7-3.25) to get 4th at the USA indoor championships.
