The indoor sesaon was highlighted by jumping 2.33m (7-7.75) which is a Canadian Record and 3rd highest jump in college all time. He won his 3rd NCAA Champs meet in a row. 2010: Outdoors: Won every competition he competed in outdoors! Highlighted by winning the NCAA champs with a 2.26m (7-5) jump. Indoors: Jumped 2.24m (7-4.25) in his indoor opener. Won the Big Ten Indoor Champs with 2.26m (7-5). Finally finished the indoor season out with a season best jump of 2.28m (7-5.75) to win the NCAA indoor champs in Fayetteville, Arkansas. 2009: Indoors jumped a season best 2.18m (7-1.75) to place 2nd at the Big 10 indoor champs. He then placed 2nd at the NCAA indoor champs with a 2.14m (7-0.25) jump. Outdoors Derek won the Big 10 champs with a 2.19m (7-2.25) jump. He then went on the the Mideast champs to win the meet with a 2.22m (7-3.25) jump. He failed to make the finals at the NCAA outdoor champs. He did however continue his season by jumping in the Pan Am Junior Champs with a win and a season best 2.27m (7-5.25). He finished the season with best jumps of 2.18m (7-1.75) indoors and 2.27m (7-5.25) outdoors. 2008: Had a personal best of 2.11m (6-11) his last year of high school. 2007: Jumped a season best of 2.07m (6-9.5) and also finished 10th at the world youth champs with a 2.04m (6-8.25) jump.
